British soprano Maryam Wocial is a member of the Royal College of Music's International Opera Studio, where she is the Poppy Holden scholar supported by the Martin Harris scholarship. Her roles at the RCM's Britten Theatre include Sandrina in Mozart’s La finta giardiniera, the Fox in Janáček’s The Cunning Little Vixen, and the Angel in Jonathan Dove’s Seven Angels, as well as Poppea (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Ilia (Idomeneo), and the Governess (The Turn of the Screw) in scenes. Maryam is a 2026 Alvarez Emerging Artist at Garsington Opera, where she is covering the roles of La Fortuna/ Giunone in Monteverdi’s Il ritorno d’Ulisse in patria. This coming Autumn, she will perform the role of Drusilla in a concert tour of L’incoronazione di Poppea with the Academy of Ancient Music, directed by Laurence Cummings. She is a recipient of a professional development bursary from the 2026 International Opera Awards.
Maryam was an Early Career Fellow with The English Concert from 2024–25 and the 2nd prize winner at the 2025 International Handel Singing Competition. She is a Josephine Baker Trust Artist, and frequently performs works of sacred music and oratorio. Recent repertoire include Merab in Handel’s Saul and Marta in Caldara’s Maddalena ai Piedi di Cristo. As a soprano soloist, she has performed Couperin’s Leçons de Ténèbres, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, Bach’s St John Passion, Vivaldi’s Gloria (RV 589), Mozart’s Mass in C and Litaniae Lauretanae, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, and Fauré’s Requiem.
As a member of the 2025 Verbier Festival’s Academy Atelier Lyrique, Maryam was awarded the Prix Thierry Mermod for her performances of song repertoire, and she was a Rising Star of Voice at both the 2025 Edinburgh International Festival and Shipston Song Festival. In 2026, she will perform a solo recital at the Ryedale Festival as a Waverley Young Artist, and she is a 2026/27 Oxford Song Young Artist with duo partner Archie Bonham.
